Kick Ass: Kicked Ass and probably would have kicked harder without: N Cage!

KICK ASS
2010 - Comedy - 100min
R aka: 18A

I was one of the those people who was all for this movie. I loved the trailer, and judging my the official websites "Red Band" Trailer it looked like Superbad but with Superheroes. But not your typical Spiderman man or Hulk re-vamp from the so called Marvel Studios. Everyday people like us, just having that old childhood fantasy about being a superhero. It would be awesome if you could fly, shoot shit out of your hand etc. But then a little thing called reality comes back into play, next thing you realize your 35 years old, jerking off to the movie Heavy Metal while you live in your mothers basement. Thats why superheros in real life don't exist.

The film is a story of a normal teen, Dave who sets out to become a real life superhero. After a youtube video showing what shit the kids got, it was clear his name was KICK ASS. But Dave aka Kick Ass gets caught up in bigger shit, when he meets BIG DADDY, a former cop whos on a quest to bring down evil drug lord, Frank D'Amico. He has been on the Quest so Goddamn all, that he has even trained his ruthless 11 year old daughter, HIT GIRL.

But The film actually had high hopes for me going in. I went in to see A movie which my case wasn't all bad. But it wasn't funny as fucking hell, like the trailer made it out to be. What made it really fucking great was they really played up the over dramatic element throughout. But still anytime I see a movie with N CAGE in it, oh God I just want to get a gun and shoot the damn television his talentless ass in on. My God, now don't get the idea. He... was badass in GONE IN 60 SECONDS. The keyword here is was. It doesn't seem like he had a fucking clue in this film. He was a bit of a dumbass, just like Leaving Las Vegas, but without the booze involved.

The scene near the end ruins anything Cage built up for himself in this movie, just like THE WICKER MAN, he screams like a fucking retard, as he's on fire, burning to death. It is not believable, yet I hope to hell Cage doesn't feel like that was the best take he could do.
Both Daniel Craig and Marky Mark were considered for the role of Big Daddy, before N Cage go the part. N Cage modeled his speech mannerisms as Big Baddy on the orignal Batman Adam West. According to Mattew Vaughn (director) Cage started acting this way at the first costume fitting. The director was happy as hell for Cage to continue with this performance in the film, citing his irrtation with the gravelly voice Christian Bale used in The Dark Knight (2008). Mark Miller and Matthew Vaughn worked really close for the Marvel Adaptation THOR (2011), but Vaughn ultimately left the project. Vaughn came to see if Miller had any interesting ideas, nearly leading to a sequel to the Bible called AMERICAN JESUS. As they were discussing that, Miller mentioned KICK ASS, and started sending Vaughn early scripts for the comic. Accoding to Miller the infamous "C - Word scene" is the moment in issue 3 of the comic where Matthew Vaughn was convinced it was a worthy project.
After being rejected by every studio they approached. Vaugh was able to raise the budget at a dinner party, and made the movie independently. In the end Vaughn ultimately sold the movie to Universal for more than he orignally asked them for. KICK ASS is an awesome movie, but N Cage ruins the ending, as always.

Street Trash Rating: 7/10.
Street Trash: Not Really, but I would Rent, before I buy and judge for yourself. I loved it, just minus the last 10min and it would have been an 8.
